Company Updates - old idea
Ideas
· Our starting idea was developed through Grace’s (director) treatment; it was based around a certain dance crew called Boy Blue Entertainment. When contacting them, we found out that it would be difficult to create our video due to fitting in around their busy schedules and rehearsal time. Therefore, we decided this idea wouldn’t work because we needed their full commitment and reliability to achieve the video we wanted to create.
· However, in our team meeting I (Megan, the producer) proposed that we should stick with the performance/narrative but change the concept to an audition format. Below is the synopsis of my idea:
Synopsis
It begins with a young girl who is determined to make it in the dance business; we witness this through her dedication to training and bettering herself. We are shown an insight into the many auditions that she has not found success in. This makes her determination levels rise even higher and we are shown her training even more intensely than previous to her auditions. Throughout the video you see close up shot of a person’s bright red lips lip synching to the words of the track. We are then shown one audition in which she is against a ballerina who is extremely talented and contrasts to her style of contemporary street, you begin to assume that the ballerina has received the role but the ending of the video, you see the camera slowly zooming out of the artists lips to reveals the young girl dancing in the music video, portraying that her hard work has paid off and she has finally been successful.
· We then developed this idea in our next meeting by adding a symbolic message of the colour red throughout the video implying passion and power. We will be exposing this through her styling in the use of red heels, red lipstick and red clothing.
· There has been possible talk of using black and white editing and only highlighting the red factors to make this symbolism even more dominant due to being inspired by the ‘JAY Z: Dreams are MADE | 2014 Budweiser MADE for Music Commercial’ but we fear that this may give off an old fashioned theme. Also, due to our genre of music being house, we have discovered that house music videos tend to use a bright colour palette.
· We then started researching songs that fit in with our video theme and were under the house style, Grace suggested the song ‘Lolo F.t Giggs- Gangster’ because the lyrics were extremely repetitive and we didn’t feel the rapping was necessary to the concept of our video. Louise (Multi Tasker) suggested that we chose a song that had a slower beat so we then looked at MK’s remix of Lana Del Rey’s ‘West Coast’ which was Maddie’s (Writer) suggestion but we found that it was too slow to choreograph a routine too for the performer in our video as the style of her dancing is fast paced. Although, this song was too sluggish, we decided that we still needed a song that didn’t carry too much of a reckless melody as we needed the ballerina to be able to dance to something that fitted with her style but wasn’t necessarily typical ballet so we finalised our song choice and decided on the track ‘Lee Foss & MK feat. Anabel Englund- Electricity (Original Mix)’ as we believed it blended well for both performers and we liked the way Marc Kinchen mixed records.
· In our next meeting, Maddie took charge off creating the Location Reece, Grace took over the audience research, I focused on making this document about the company updates and Louise created our ideal reader profile.
Starting filming
· Once we had begun filming our first session, we held a team meeting where we discussed what went well and what we could improve on. We played back the footage we had recorded and discovered that many clips weren’t white balanced and some which had looked in focus weren’t when opened on a bigger screen therefore we needed to practise white balancing before filming again. We also decided that the makeup look we selected wasn’t as vibrant on camera as we had wished it would be so we decided we would film the clips once again and make better preparation for the styling and try another idea. However, we was happy with how the clips turned out in our practice run and agreed that we all worked well as a team and helped out with each other’s roles as well as our individual responsibilities. We also didn’t give up at the first hurdle and kept rerecording until we was happy with the footage. Even though we wouldn’t be using these recordings for our video as it was only a practice to guarantee all would go well and preparation had been made, we all dedicated our time to be there and enjoyed the filming process.
